These themes are verily centred on ideals related to societal life. This study analyses Shakespeare\u2019s approach to the interactions of people whence the notion of integration which is depicted through multicultural dramatis personae in both Othello and The Merchant of Venice. It is in fact, an exercise that consists in scrutinising the position of the dramatist and that of his contemporaries upon the phenomenon of alterity. In order to achieve this goal, the article considers two key ideas namely the setting and characterisation through which Shakespeare dramatises integration challenges inside both plays. It helps grasping the progress of the notion of integration since Shakespearean era to the current challenges related to otherness and integration.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Keywords: integration, multiculturalism, otherness, love, tolerance.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Shakespeare est une ic\u00f4ne mondiale du th\u00e9\u00e2tre. Il doit cette renomm\u00e9e \u00e0 la pertinence des th\u00e8mes abord\u00e9s dans ses oeuvres. Les th\u00e8mes de Shakespeare sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement imbus de l\u2019id\u00e9al de la vie et surtout de la vie en soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Cet article s\u2019articule autour de la vision de Shakespeare sur l\u2019int\u00e9gration \u00e0 travers la mise sur sc\u00e8ne des personnages d\u2019origines diverses et par ricochet de pratique culturelles vari\u00e9es dans Othello et The Merchant of Venice. Il s\u2019agit ici, de comprendre la position de l\u2019auteur et de celle de ses contemporains sur le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de l\u2019alt\u00e9rit\u00e9.
