Emma Lou in The Blacker the Berry (1929) and Lula Ann Bride in God Help the Child (2015) are two central characters who suffer all sorts of abuse because of their dark complexion. This paper hypothesizes that dark-skinned children are more inclined to racial discrimination than their lighter-skinned counterparts in a racist society. Drawing on the ethnic and critical race theory, this paper highlights the various types of abuse darker-skinned children suffer in racist societies. Emma Lou dans The Blacker the Berry (1929) et Lula Ann Bride dans God Help the Child (2015) sont deux personnages principaux qui ont subi toutes sortes d\u2019abus \u00e0 cause de leur teint noir. L&rsquo;hypoth\u00e8se de cette \u00e9tude est que, dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 raciste, les enfants de teint noir sont plus enclins \u00e0 \u00eatre victimes de la discrimination raciale que leurs homologues dont la peau est plus claire. S\u2019inspirant de la th\u00e9orie raciale et ethnique, cet article met en exergue les diff\u00e9rents types d\u2019abus subis par les enfants de teint noir dans les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s racistes.
