Among the themes developed in his fiction appear issues related to children\u2019s living conditions, which are worth investigating. Relying on reader-response criticism this study explores children\u2019s rights in Hawthorne\u2019s masterpiece, The Scarlet Letter, with the view of showing how Pearl, an adulterous little girl who is abandoned by her Puritan father, claims her rights and those of other children by confronting him with his own contradictions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Keywords: The Scarlet Letter, children, rights, advocacy, Puritanism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Nathaniel Hawthorne, consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l\u2019un des plus grands \u00e9crivains de son \u00e9poque, est bien connu pour son tr\u00e8s beau style r\u00e9dactionnel. Les questions de genre en lien avec les conditions de vie des enfants sont au c\u0153ur de sa fiction et m\u00e9ritent d\u2019\u00eatre examin\u00e9es.
