In this language, the verbal structures, in certain uses, are likely to be preceded by two morphemes: /kɩ́/ (high tone) and /kɩ/ (mid tone). The first one is called the potential, “the forms corresponding to “can” (G. Jendraschek, 2003, p. 65); the second is a subject recall morpheme – an expression we owe to M. Cox (1998, p. 32). The selection of one of them is accompanied by either a raising pitch or a lowering pitch in the verb structure that follows. We try to analyze the functioning of these morphemes, their distributional possibilities and the prosodic facts they induce within the verbal constituent: each of them combines with one of the particular forms of the conjugation, and goes with a particular tonal scheme. The identification of the two types of relationships is important in understanding the amalgams that are actually lexicalized.
 Université de Kara (Togo) ; E-mail : adounaino100@yahoo.fr

Keywords: morpheme of potential; subject recall morpheme; form of
mention; verb; tone.

Résumé Le présent article s’intéresse au constituant verbal en ncàm (bassar).
