In the South of Benin, the unborn child is taken care of in a rigorous and delicate way at the moral and spiritual level, because not only is he or she already a complete human being in the embryonic and fetal state, but above all he or she is in direct contact with the visible, invisible and divine world. However, this perception is undergoing an anthropological decadence with regard to the meeting of civilizations. For this reason, the present article aims to take an anthropological view of the spiritual and moral attitudes towards the status of the unborn child in the heart of the Beninese tradition. The empirical information gathered during the interviews was enlightened by the teachings of the monotheistic religions and by the existing documentation. It emerges at the physical and cultural level that the traditions and monotheistic religions are the carriers of this projection of light on the behavior to be observed with regard to the status of the unborn child.

Keywords: status, unborn child, anthropology, physical, cultural

Résumé Pour l’anthropologie physique et culturelle, l’enfant est un être humain dès sa conception.
