Résumé:

La quête stylistique menée par un perroquet métaphorique dans Flaubert’s Parrot de Julian Barnes rappelle de nombreuses facettes de l’œuvre et de la vie de Gustave Flaubert et a sans doute incité plus d’un lecteur à se replonger dans l’univers flaubertien. Le lecteur est d’ailleurs luimême implicitement invité à suivre, au-delà de l’ouvrage, les traces des perroquets, de Gustave Flaubert, de Julian Barnes et de Geoffrey Braithwaite, en se rendant sur les lieux de l’enquête, en Normandie, à Rouen et à Croisset, dans les deux musées où les énigmatiques perroquets concurrents l’attendent. Cet article fait apparaître cette analogie existante entre la vie de Flaubert et son œuvre. Barnes dévoile la manière dont l’œuvre de Flaubert étant intrinsèquement liée à sa vie, participe du rétablissement de la vérité tant convoitée par le narrateur.

Abstract
The stylistic quest led by a metaphorical parrot in Julian Barnes’ Flaubert’s Parrot recalls many facets of the work and life of Gustave Flaubert and has undoubtedly prompted more than one reader to delve into Flaubert’s universe. The reader is himself implicitly invited to follow, beyond the book, in the footsteps of parrots, Gustave Flaubert’s, Julian Barnes’ and Geoffrey Braithwaite’s, by going to the scenes of the investigation, in Normandy, in Rouen and Croisset, in the two museums where the enigmatic competing parrots await him. This article highlights this existing analogy between Flaubert’s life and his work. Barnes reveals how Flaubert’s work, being intrinsically linked to his life, contributes to the restoration of the truth that the narrator has so much desired.
