Abstract
In this study, I deploy Postcolonial Theory to discuss the problematic of religious fanaticism in Chimamanda Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus. The paper underscores the fact that the authoress’ protagonist’s encounter with the white man’s religion and culture has turned him into a confused man due to his inability to draw a line between culture and religion. As a result, he cannot maintain peace and harmony within his society.

Résumé
Dans cette étude, j’utilise la théorie postcoloniale pour analyser la problématique du fanatisme religieux dans Purple Hibiscus de Chimamanda Adichie. L’article souligne le fait que la rencontre du protagoniste de l’auteure avec la religion et la culture de l’homme blanc l’a transformé en un homme habité par la confusion en raison de son incapacité à distinguer entre culture et religion. En conséquence, il ne peut pas maintenir la paix et l’harmonie à l’intérieur de sa société.
